My Family Meets the Lady

One of the highlights of my book launch in Sleepy Hollow was bringing my family to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery to meet a very important character in “Secrets in the Hollow,” The Bronze Lady.

I have always loved cemeteries. To me, they are peaceful and, if well maintained, beautiful and meditative. Rather than creepy, I find that Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is rich in history and the culture of the towns. My aunts and uncles are buried there as well as high school friends who passed too soon. I always visit another cemetery where my parents, grandparents, and extended family are buried and my own children are well aware of how important that is to me.

So, it came as a surprise when our family of twelve visited Sleepy Hollow Cemetery to see The Bronze Lady. All three of our adult children and their spouses stayed about ten feet away, as did our oldest granddaughter. When I asked to take a picture with all six grandchildren, she slowly walked into the picture, standing on the edge so as not to get too close. The other girls were fine but my seven-year-old grandson climbed up on the Lady, despite his mother’s pleas to stand back! He is so pure of heart I am sure The Lady would not harm him!

I felt the circle was complete with my family visiting Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown with me and my husband. I am forever grateful.
