Stepping Back in Time

I enjoy stepping back in time and actually walking where others left their footprints, wondering about their stories. Like many people, I realize that I never fully explored my hometown when I lived there. While writing my debut novel, “Secrets of the Hollow,” I discovered a stunning sculture in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the Bronze Lady, that became a centerpiece in the book. I also had never visited Sunnyside until this past summer.

The website states, “Explore the romantic riverside cottage and landscape designed by America’s Founding Father of Literature.” Those two clues might lead you to Sunnyside, the home of Washington Irving, in Tarrytown, New York, founded in 1835.

Nestled on ten acres on the banks of the Hudson River, the Dutch stone house was added to and changed to Irving’s liking and some of the original furnishings are still there. So is the original wisteria bush planted by Irving that surrounds the front door!

I visited Sunnyside partly because it will be included in my follow-up novel. I have many ideas after seeing the small dark rooms and beautiful property with outbuildings full of possibilities. The story will be centered around Nessa and Chester, two characters from the first book. I have to admit, they were my favorites!

My hope for you is that the new year brings good things into your lives. Keep reading and leave reviews for your favorite books; authors appreciate them!

‘Til next time,

Barbara
