The Overwhelming Responsibility of a Creative Mind

My husband and I recently traveled to Vinci, Italy, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. The rolling hills of green and lush countryside beckoned us to his former home, now filled with rooms and rooms full of his inventions and paintings. I know this isn’t going to be a popular idea, but I have always thought that da Vinci was a time traveler. Now, hear me out. Just because I will never understand how that could be done, it doesn’t mean it’s not possible. Right? Da Vinci invented the prototype for the helicopter, the parachute, a catapult, and even a triple barrel cannon. True, the man was a creative genius but those, as well as an underwater diving suit, were not everyday items back then. He envisioned many ideas many years before the technology to build them even existed! His paintings and sketches prove how intense da Vinci spent his days. And, let’s remember that he dissected corpses. His curiosity was boundless. When he passed at 67, he died unmarried and childless. I surmise that he just didn’t have time. I also can’t imagine when the man found time to sleep. Even with my writing, I feel great pressure to perform and succeed but I can walk away and do laundry! I would think that Leonardo felt an enormous burden to create, just to get those ideas out of his head. That kind of genius is not always a gift. I am incredibly appreciative for his life and creations, and I will always marvel about his creative mind.

‘Til next time,

Barbara
