There is something to be said about a Ladies Book Club. For two hours a month, we can congregate and just talk with no interruptions. Even for retirees, that’s a gift! I recently hosted my neighborhood book club and shared my novel, “Secrets in the Hollow: A Sleepy Hollow Novel.” At first, I felt a little uncomfortable asking my friends to read and discuss my debut novel but they were all very gracious and excited for me. Because they all know my history with Sleepy Hollow, I decided to read excerpts from Washington Irving’s story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
“There was the doughty doughnut, the tender oly koek, and the crisp and crumbling cruller; sweet cakes and short cakes, ginger cakes and honey cakes, and the whole family of cakes. “
Even better than reading, I made homemade sweet cakes! They were a big hit and four neighbors asked for the recipe. I thought I would share it with you because it is very easy and yummy. The sweet cakes are almost like a sugar cookie but with a cakey consistency. Enjoy!
